Mississippi public education lawsuit — Attorney general’s criminal justice mistake — Live webcast of SPLC benefit concert

SPLC suit seeks to secure ‘uniform’ system of public education in Mississippi

We filed suit this week against Mississippi for violating a nearly 150-year-old, legally binding obligation to operate a “uniform system of free public schools” for all children. The federal law that readmitted the state to the Union prohibited it from diluting the education rights contained in its post-Civil War constitution. But the education clause has been changed four times. Today, there are stark disparities between majority-black schools and those with largely white student bodies.

Sessions’ serious mistake: Attorney general takes us back to failed, mass incarceration policies

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has directed federal prosecutors to pursue the most serious possible charges against defendants.  His insistence on returning to the sentencing policies that created mass incarceration in the first place bode ill not just for the people who will be subject to harsh sentences but for all Americans who want to see a fair, effective, efficient criminal justice system.

Live webcast concert for 'Wolf' auction to benefit SPLC

Next week, a live webcast concert with Joe Russo and an impressive array of his musical friends will be held in conjunction with the upcoming charity auction of Jerry Garcia's legendary "Wolf" guitar. We’ll receive all proceeds from the webcast as well as the auction. The webcast is currently available for pre-order and should begin at 8 p.m. (eastern) Wednesday (May 31). We're also offering special, limited-edition SPLC-Wolf T-shirts for the cost of production.
