We've asked the government to release records to show whether anti-LGBT extremists are influencing the Trump administration's policies, including a yet-to-be-signed executive order that would permit widespread discrimination under the guise of religious freedom.

SPLC reaches agreement with Alabama town to stop debtors' prison

An Alabama town has agreed to stop jailing people simply because they're too poor to pay fines for traffic tickets and misdemeanors. A $680,000 settlement, which resolves a federal class action we filed against Alexander City and its police chief, will benefit 190 people who were wrongly incarcerated during a two-year period beginning in September 2013.

Teaching Tolerance recognizes 76 schools for Mix It Up at Lunch Day efforts

The SPLC's Teaching Tolerance project named 76 schools as Mix It Up Model Schools for their exemplary efforts to foster respect and understanding among students during the 2016-17 school year. The schools all embraced the values promoted by Teaching Tolerance – empathy, kindness and respect for differences – and set an example for campuses everywhere.
