New Orleans Confederate monuments — SPLC fights for immigrant rights — auction of Jerry Garcia’s treasured guitar

New Orleans appeals court upholds order to remove Confederate monuments

A federal appeals court has upheld a ruling allowing the removal of three Confederate monuments in New Orleans, likely resolving a case in which we filed a legal brief detailing how the "monuments were constructed to perpetuate and honor white supremacy." The decision comes more than a year after we launched a campaign to support communities in their efforts to remove Confederate symbols from public spaces across the South.

SPLC seeks release of detained Dreamer Daniela Vargas

We've just filed a petition to force the release of Daniela Vargas, a 22-year-old aspiring math teacher who was detained by immigration agents moments after publicly speaking out about immigrants' rights. The Department of Homeland Security contends that Vargas waived her rights to contest deportation when she entered the country at age 7. But it's clear that her First Amendment and due process rights are being violated, and we're working to help her remain in the country, the only home she knows.

Jerry Garcia’s Wolf guitar will be auctioned to support SPLC

The guitar of Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia, known as "Wolf," will be auctioned to support the SPLC at the Brooklyn Bowl in New York City this May. All proceeds from the winning bid will support our work fighting hate and seeking justice for our society's most vulnerable.
